How Many Environmental Emergencies Is This Now?

We have a new environmental catchphrase from Al Gore now:  Sustainable Capitalism. More importantly, what does this actually have to do with the environment?  Yes, he’s mentioning that it’s deflecting attention from the global cooling global warming climate change what hyperbole are we on again press the boom button climate crisis, but how does corporate reporting reform have anything to do with, say, endangered species?

How many environmental emergencies is this now?  There’s another one heating up due to the bird blenders, uh, windfarm operators, and frankly I’ve lost count.  Heck, I make fun of the ginned-up panic.  But back to Al Gore.

Guess that whole Climategate thing put a dent in his income.

How To Keep Up Your Own Morale

If you’re paying attention to politics on the conservative side of things lately, there’s not much of a way to be happy about circumstances.  The Republicans are in the process of turning what could have been a slam dunk election in 2012 into their own rout.  Boehner and McConnell have been disasters.  After the Kelo decision, there’s a real chance the Supreme Court could say “Yep, Obamacare’s on the level” and we’re stuck with it.

So how do you keep up morale?  When feeling overwhelmed, think smaller.

Yes, the big picture isn’t so bright, but that doesn’t mean we can’t move the ball forward somewhere.  There are individual Congressional candidates like Mia B. Love to assist.  Ted Cruz is making headway to the nomination in Texas.  Indiana just passed a Right to Work law.  Life’s not good everywhere, but it’s madness to say it’s not good anywhere.

If you look, there is somewhere and some way to push conservatism forward.  Should you find yourself demoralized, shrink your focus to one of them until it goes away.  You can always jump back into the bigger fray later once you’ve regrouped.  We can win somewhere in 2012, even if that’s not everywhere.

One step at a time if that’s what it takes.

Another Display of Advanced Socialism In Greece

Greece passed a package of austerity measures that was required for it to receive more bailouts.  They’re calling this round IMF rescue loans, which means we get to contribute to them, but the bottom line is that they’re bailouts.  In response, the population has given us another display of advanced socialism and started burning Athens.

When our entitlements inevitably come due, you’ll see some of this in a major city entirely too near you.  In my case, either DC, Richmond the not so major Virginia city, or both.  Not looking forward to it.

This is the sort of thing that should lead to real discussions of why we’re going in the wrong direction.  It’s an opportunity to articulate why liberalism is a bad idea and where it ultimately leads when the entire population is infected with it.  And yet, most of the GOP isn’t up to the task.  They are, in fact, going out of their way to remain status quo losers.

Does anyone really think we’re going to ignore this problem away?

Scott Walker at CPAC 2012

If there’s one guy getting results lately, it’s the man that’s the current defining standard of what it means for a Republican to get stuff done, Governor Walker of Wisconsin.  He made a speech at CPAC this year, and unlike the fake severely conservative in the race, Walker can cite results.  There is no argument for one’s conservatism with more substance than results.

He deserves our support, and so do the rest of those targeted for recall in 2012.

Walker is the highest profile target, but he’s not alone.  Three Wisconsin Republican Senators had petitions filed against them as well, and the current expectation is that enough valid signatures exist to trigger the election.  They’re Pam Galloway, Terry Moulton, and Van Wanggaard.

So if you’re supporting Walker, don’t forget that only one more seat in the Wisconsin Senate has to flip for the Democrats to regain control and gridlock legislation.  Support the senators too, because Walker couldn’t have done it without them.  It’s true that Walker is among the few though growing number of Republicans that do deserve your help, but he’s not alone.
