Taxes In The News

There’s tax news all over the place today.  Since I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night, I’ll keep it to a quick bit of speedlinking and commentary.

1.)  The stupid has come due in the UK:  The UK tried to implement a 50% tax on the top earners, and promptly discovered that their revenues have gone down because of it.  Before too much longer, their unemployment may well be going up over it.  If the rich don’t want to be taxed on the money at 50%, they’re not going to earn or spend it in the country causing the problem.

2.)  Romney’s new tax plan is milquetoast:  Pretty much the same as the candidate.  Plus, to accept he’s serious about it one would have to presume he would even fight for it against shrill Democrat opposition on the off chance he makes it to the Oval Office.  You can read some details about it through the link.

In fact, that would be the problem with Romney in general.  You would first have to accept the premise that he’s distinguishable from Obama in any meaningful way and if so, that he would actually expend some effort against Democrats to do what we want in order to support him.  Given Romney’s governing history in Massachusetts and general RINO behavior, that’s a stretch to believe.

3.)  Obama’s pretending to cut the tax rate for corporations:  The catch is that he also intends to make a lot of things worse on them.  That in turn would make things worse for the American public as the new costs are passed down to us.  It’s pretty much the same liberal damage as always, only on a different day.  And the man most likely to win the nomination to face him is the candidate most indistinguishable from him, one Mitt Romney.

Heck, they’ve had some of the same advisorsPlural.

Not really a happy sort of tax day.
