A Day Late and a Dollar Short

The title over at the Daily Caller is innocuous enough:  “Moderates Unsure About Pelosi.”  Apparently, the Blue Dogs have decided they’ve had enough of her now that the damage is done.  Well, that’s a decision they should have made sooner, because they’re a day late and a dollar short now.

They can be as sick of her as they want.  Her damage is on their hands and they can’t run away from it.  They did her bidding when they cowered to her and fell into line.  Now that the policies she fought so hard to make law are hurting the voters ready to pink slip the lot of them, they want out.

Tough luck.

There is no more ‘out.’  They’ve helped Pelosi hand bushels of political ammunition to their opponents, and many of them won’t be returning in 2011.  Furthermore, those that lose their jobs deserve it.  They exposed the myth of the Blue Dog with Obamacare and every other liberal policy nightmare they helped to pass, and they can reap what they’ve sown.

UN Extraterrestrial Liason Appointed

Are those words you never thought you would read?  It gets better.  This isn’t an SH&D post.  This piece of first-rate political dementia is realThe UN actually did this, and even by their standards it’s enough to evoke incredulity.  On the other hand, they are a bunch of space cadets.

This is too dumb for mockery, but they’ll get some anyway.

What, there aren’t more important world issues for them to blunder?  No time to screw up on Iranian nukes?  The Islamic threat not keeping them occupied?  No, we have to worry about whether or not we have an intergalactic ambassador just in case General Zod arrives and tries to take over the planet.

Then again, it’s probably better than the alternative…

KNEEL BEFORE Z….What?!   You’re supposed to wait until I’m done saying it!  My megalomania is not to be interrupted!  And why are you bowing?  Are you that guy that bows to everyone?  How am I supposed to do a proper job of conquering this planet if you look like you’re enjoying it?!

You’re lucky I’ll even bother to grind you under my heel!  Now quit smiling!  I mean it!  STOP SMILING NOW!

It’s been a week for political dementia, especially after Colbert testifying on illegal immigration in character, but this is too much.

Two Candidates You Should Definitely Know

We have a heck of a crop of good candidates this time around, but you don’t quite know them all yet.  Two of the ones you might not yet have known were out there are poised for victories in unlikely places.

1.)  Sean Bielat is looking to retire Barney Frank.  Yes, the Barney Frank from Massachusetts who said there was no housing crisis, and that Fannie and Freddie Mae are doing fine.  The promotional line of the day comes from Ace at Ace of Spades HQ.

“When he’s not killing terrorists, he’s building fuckin’ robots.”

Being a robot fan myself, I had to mention him.  The fact he could replace Frank in November would just be icing on the cake.  His web site is here.

2.)  Joe DioGuardi is running against Kirsten Gillibrand for US Senate.  According to Rasmussen, he’s still down 10%, but he’s closed to that from a 20% gap earlier this month.  This guy has a real chance of winning the seat, and it would be another well-deserved shock to Democrats in November if he took it.

Furthermore, it’s a special election.  He’d take the seat immediately if he won, so support him if you can.  If we win New York, Delaware, and West Virginia (Kirk in Illinois has already proven untrustworthy on Cap and Trade, so I don’t consider him much of a pick up), the lame duck session of Congress stops being so much of a threat.

They’re worthwhile people to support, just a little less known and facing longer odds.  It’s not the first time we’ve seen the sorts of odds and won (Rubio, Brown, and Miller all ring bells on that point), so don’t write them off.

A Few Thoughts On The Republican Leadership

The GOP Pledge to America has come under scrutiny by the conservative blogosphere and mixed reviews.  Some people say it’s typical Republican milquetoast, and others are more enthusiastic.  I’d like to skip past the Pledge and just cut straight to the leadership.  One way or another, they’re going to be an issue.

Most likely, they’re going to be a problem.

The Tea Parties are a paradigm shift.  They’re not trying to be a part of the Republican Party; they’re trying to take it over.  Frankly, the Republicans were due for some better leadership, but that doesn’t mean the current club is simply going to go away.  Likely their next move now is to try and wait it out, or make a different kind of noise while they continue to do nothing.

The first two to watch in that regard are Boehner and Cantor.  Neither are exactly striking me as bold, and they’re likely to be the Speaker of the House and Majority Whip come 2011.  Fortunately, if they should try to hamstring real leadership or fold like typical Republican wimps, the solution is simple:  Introduce them to their replacements in the 2012 primaries.  They can’t be elected to leadership of the House if they’re not in the House.

On the flip side, Senator Cornyn and the NRSC have the sense to at least pretend to be going along with the Tea Party.  Likely that occurred after the backlash of them publicly ditching O’Donnell, but there’s no complaining for the time being.  Cornyn can be primaried soon enough.

In any case, don’t make the mistake of thinking they want the Tea Party or those of us sympathetic to them around.  They may need us right now, but in the end, they probably realize we don’t want to do things their way and intend to break their grip on the Republican agenda.  There’s no other way to turn the party into a real opposition force to socialism, and then reverse America’s descent into leftist ruin.  The action required for that directly contradicts their desired status quo of Democrat-lite, and we will be the only ones they oppose with any real vigor when we start to insist they take the steps we want.
