News From the Nanny State, 9/9/2010

Ever wonder what would happen if the nanny state got its way in the future?  I do, and it’s farcical.  It wouldn’t be pretty, but let’s keep it light anyway.

Take this hypothetical news piece from the nanny state in 2014, for instance…

El Paso, TX – In one of the largest busts the state of Texas has ever seen, Texas police confiscated 250 kilos of incandescent light bulbs in a warehouse raid at 2:43am today.  While witnesses report that shots were fired, there were no police injuries or deaths.

One source from the Texas Attorney General’s office spoke to us on condition of anonymity.

“Since the incandescent bulb ban went into effect, they’ve been more lucrative than the drugs the Mexican cartels used to smuggle across the border.  It’s because have a broader appeal to the American population.  No matter who you are, you remember the days when the incandescent bulb was legal, and many Americans want them back.  A dealer can sell 10 of them a day for $200 apiece without breaking a sweat.”

25 people suspected of being the ringleaders of a multi-state incandescent bulb ring were arrested.  Among the charges were bribery, blackmail, and using people as mules to smuggle incandescent bulbs onto airplanes and through customs.

“It’s not pretty when someone walks through a scanner and you see incandescent bulbs in places they were never meant to go,” one customs official said.  “One fellow had swallowed an entire string of Christmas lights, which sell nowadays for a good five grand.  I don’t know where they find the people to do this.”

Administration officials in Washington deny that the incandescent bulb ban, which was intended to help the environment, has increased violence on the border.

No, it’s not real, but we could all use a bit of humor during the Obama administration.
