Paper Majorities

For the moment, anyway, McCain seems to be on his way to winning the Arizona primary.  If that happens, shortly thereafter the militant LOTE shills will come out of the woodwork to tell us all we have to back him now.  Truthfully, there would be no point.  The Democrat in the general could do less damage, because the Democrat can’t cause a paper majority.

The concept behind a paper majority is simple.  The majority exists, the chairmanships are filled with Republicans, and everything is fine until someone tries to do something conservative.  That’s when all the RINOs turn back into Democrats and force the initiative to stop or cause a loss.  In this circumstance, the majority looks good on paper, but doesn’t accomplish anything in reality.  Hence, a paper majority.

You had better believe John McCain will go back to causing these if he returns to Congress.  He had a lot to do with the paper majority flare-ups under Bush.  The Gangs of Fail and all the McCain-Democrat legislation he sponsored so he could go on television and say “Look at me!  Me!  I’m so mavericky!” contributed to the Republicans being able to do less with their majorities when they had them.

It’s not as though he was doing it for a good reason either.  Senator “I never considered myself a maverick” and “I never supported amnesty” is a RINO hack, not a principled independent that just happens to be grouchy.  There are no greater goods to consider now by voting for him, and at least one to consider by voting against him.

You’ve seen McCain, you know what he’ll do, and you know how much damage someone with his seniority can inflict from within the Republican party.  He can prevent Republican opposition to Obama with a paper majority (or larger paper minority) where a Democrat can’t.  Unless you’d like to be in a position where you’re trying to rebuild the Republicans again after a RINO destroys them, do what you can to avoid this.
