Legalize Marijuana in California?

There’s an initiative underway in California to legalize, regulate, and tax marijuana.  It’s leading in the polls as of this post, and I can see why California would want to do this.  It’s something else to regulate and tax.  It’s not like it has many other industries after they all left due to mind-numbing regulation and over-taxation to support all those public sector unions now.

I suspect the issue has some serious debate attending it in California.  Good thing for you that you won’t find any serious debate about marijuana on this blog.  No, if they want to legalize marijuana in California…let’s indulge in the more demented and probably unrealistic possibilities.

If they’re legalizing and then selling pot there, who’s buying it?  The blue voters.  Once it becomes legal, we can help them get it.  To show there’s no hard feelings, we can do things like buy them marijuana gift packages and brownies.  Ideally, this would occur the day before elections.

Imagine if you will what would happen if all your friendly marijuana consumers didn’t let a little thing like voting harsh their mellow.  In fact, beleaguered California conservatives could just part with some cash and keep them mellow.  They could pay homage to liberal politicians with the more expensive marijuana indulgences.  Those politicians would then be too busy basking in marijuana goodness to do things like vote on tax increases.

But by all means, conservatives should pretend to be upset so that liberals vote for this initiative out of spite.  Then, with the judicious timing of marijuana gift goodies, we’ll never have to worry about the left voting again.  Not only would California have a new source of revenue, but we could save it from socialism while laughing at all of the stoned tie-dyed people.

Aren’t you glad we didn’t discuss this sensibly on a Friday?
