Maverick John McCain Can’t Win Without His Betters

I suppose most people opposing the “maverick” John McCain weren’t happy with today.  He held a rally in Tuscon with Sarah Palin, who continued her unbroken streak as a huge draw.  In the scheme of things, it may even take him over the finish line.

Still, it’s not without a price.

I can’t help but to wonder how it feels for The Mavericky One.  After all this time he spent in the Senate, all the time he spent becoming a media darling, all the insider allies he has, all the money he’s raised, all the ads he ran, he still has a real chance of losing.  In fact, if you want to see Sarah Palin’s visit in a new light, this is “maverick” John McCain admitting that he can’t win without his betters.

We can all understand why Sarah’s doing it.  While I find her sense of gratitude refreshing in light of politics as usual, she doesn’t owe him anything more.  He introduced her to the national spotlight, certainly, but she accomplished the rest of becoming famous on her own.  Plus, she prevented him from suffering his well-deserved fifty state mavericking after the TARP vote, which is more than enough payoff given her treatment thereafter by his ungrateful person and staff.

So let him smile and wave at the fact we evil nasty conservatives might once again be thwarted in getting rid of him due to the classy if annoying timed assistance of Sarah Palin.  I’m sure he’ll be able to live with knowing that no one at their rallies are there to see him.  Once he gets his Senate seat again, he won’t be bothered in the least by the unmistakable truth that a previously unknown politician from Alaska who’s only been on the national scene for around a year and a half has politically outclassed him in every measurable respect.

It’s ok.  We understand.

Ok, My Predictions Were Off Just a Bit

I can’t say I’m happy with retractions, but I’m forced to admit some of my predictions prior to Obamacare’s passage were off a bit.

It appears the individual insurance mandate doesn’t kick in immediately.  In fact, it doesn’t kick in until 2014.  And everything else, like the taxes, just kind of trickles forward until the benefits start along with the mandates in 2014.  So I goofed on that immediate change, and I’m owning up to it now.

So as for the rest of it?

  • Good news all you liberal business-haters.  Catepiller and John Deere are saying how much the new mandates and taxes will cost them.  My suggestion is to cut costs by finding all the employees with Obama bumper stickers on their cars and inviting them to spend more time enjoying their new socialist utopia.  With a pink slip.
  • I’m pretty sure all of those people I said would be infuriated by this are…well, not a complete list.  Everyone’s going to be mad soon.
  • And the big one I didn’t see coming:  Obamacare has been endorsed by Fidel Castro.  No, I’m not kidding.  This time.

So good news, Democrats.  I was wrong about the immediate results, so you get to laugh at a conservative.  The bad news?  The truth is worse, especially for you, and even your “no” votes won’t save you now.  Have a nice day.

Fake Threats Are All They Have

The Democrats have amped up the “We’re all getting threats” meme since the passage of Obamacare.  It’s not like they have anything else going for them, and much from which they would love to run.

Ok, so maybe they’re getting some nasty phone calls.  Carnahan is afraid of a coffin used in a prayer vigil.  A lot of us are angry and for good reason.  But Clyburn calling us all terrorists because we oppose Obamacare?  We’re not the ones using the irresponsible rhetoric.

In fact, since the Democrats have had full control:

  • Unemployment has gotten worse.
  • Spending is through the roof.
  • They spent over a year passing a disastrous health care bill which has a good chance of bankrupting the country while making care less available, reducing its quality, and raising its costs.
  • Passed said health care bill with buyoffs, arm-twisting, and thug tactics appropriate to a banana republic against the will of a majority who made their feelings known the whole time.
  • Demonized all opposition to said health care bill.
  • Ignored all other issues but the health care bill, except for that worthless $15 Billion dollar “jobs stimulus” they passed a month or so ago.
  • And have had their special interest groups engage in violence and intimidation they’re projecting on to us, most notably the SEIU.

There is nothing the Democrats have ever done since becoming liberal that has been good.  Oh, they’ve bought votes and blocks of people, but the impending insolvency, social decay, and ruin of once-great places like Detroit and California are all their doing.  In fact, the statist control freaks can’t point to their successes or results in much of anything.

As Obamacare starts crumbling our medical system and spiking taxes, they’ll need distractions and some way to avert the impending disaster of November.  What’s left then?  Fake threats are all they have.  Possibly even faked events they can try to blame on the Tea Parties and the right in general.  They certainly can’t run on their results.

Of Two Minds On the Threats Report

As reported at The Hill, the leaders of both parties are worried about a spike in threats against lawmakers.  Coming so soon off of the fake racial slur accusation, I’m perfectly inclined to believe the Democrats are making this up too.  However, I can also believe they’re pushed a lot of people too far, and it’s actually happening.

So, I’m of two minds on the threats report.

  1. If you’re actually doing this, stop.  Congresstrash can be dealt with in other ways without breaking the law or risking jail time.  Their businesses can be boycotted.  They can be  reduced to pariahs.  Their activities can be put under a microscope to search for lawbreaking, then prosecuted by state AGs, and Democrats tend to be as pure as an open sewer.  And finally, they can be voted out of office in November.  Some states are even circulating recall petitions to get rid of them right now.
  2. If it’s not, this is the latest attempt by Democrats to discredit the right and the Tea Parties  in the wake of what’s certain to be a tough election year for them.  I suspect the Democrats would also love an excuse not to go back to their districts, or play the pity card on their own behalf regardless of whether or not it’s based on a lie.  The Republicans consensus with Democrats today should be taken with a grain of salt, because went along with the fake racial slur accusation made on Sunday too, so their input adds no credibility.

In either event, congratulations Democrats.  You wanted to change the rules, and now you have.  No one knows what will happen next, beyond the obvious choices:  bad and worse.
