Down to the Wire on Obamacare
No jokes now, folks. Obama is annoyingly persistent.
Apparently, he’s going to try and get Obamacare come hell or high water. He’s put reconciliation on the table, spinning it as “an up or down vote”, though it’s not legal for this bill and he had argued against its use previously. While they don’t currently have the votes yet in the House, I suspect the Speaker Botox will be twisting arms harder than she ever has before as she tries to convince others to sacrifice their careers for the greater glory of Obama.
Make no mistake, no real good will come from this bill despite claims to the contrary. It’s all ego and blind ideology now. Anyone who votes for it has no excuse or recourse for forgiveness after all the damage they will have helped to inflict.
Time to put the heat back on the House and work to kill Obamacare once more. So my contribution is to throw out a few more thoughts of what might happen if this bill passes.
- Starting with the obvious, a lot of Democrats lose their jobs in November. I’ll mention this first, but they don’t much seem to care. No career is too great to be sacrificed for Obama, so long as it’s not his own.
- Court cases and lawsuits pop up. Anyone in the Congress that thinks this bill will be behind them if it passes is mad. It will go to court next, and it will be front and center for months as we fight it there. If we win, they lost their jobs for nothing.
- Failing that, the states can just decide to start saying “screw you, we’re not doing this.” My home state of Virginia is already trying this route, and we’re not the only ones.
- How about some callous disregard? Do they think their base will sink or swim if we find ways to force them to rely on their own devices in a depression the Democrats create with this sort of leftist tinkering? If we have to suffer the consequences of their idiotic voting, why not let them try?
- Someone they know might die from the mess they make of the medical system in this country someday. They certainly die from it in other places that have the single-payer disaster Obama wants. Or they wait months for things they need right now. Either way is pain.
- All the other entitlements passed with popular support and acclaim. This is different. Do they really think they know what happens next, especially with a Tea Party movement that didn’t exist in the New Deal or Great Society days? Are they really sure it can’t be repealed, and guarantees them permanent majority status? I recall Bush thinking that about the prescription drug program not so long ago, and see how that turned out for him.
- Why risk any of this for Pelosi or Obama? He’s likely a one-term president, and she has a really good chance of not being Speaker for much longer. And neither of them have demonstrated that they know what they’re doing for themselves, much less these Congresstwits that are wondering if they should do as they’re told.
As for any self-deception? The Democrats had better see through the lies they’ve been telling themselves quickly. They do not know better, we are not mindless rubes, and we haven’t been misled. We are not astroturf. We are not going to forget. We’re not going to quit if they do pass this or see the Light of Liberal Truth because there is no such thing. The long and short of it: they shouldn’t blow this, because the consequences are waiting.
