Republicans Pleasantly Surprising at Healthcare Theatre

flag_dogBy all accounts, it would appear the Republicans have learned from their first encounter with The Obama and were prepared this time.  Obama spent six hours having his rear handed to him on television when he was trying to spring his own trap, and blowing the whole image of mindless Republican obstructionism.  I admit, I am pleasantly surprised, and extend my congratulations to the Republicans because they are due.

The polling hasn’t come out yet, but at this point one of two things will happen:

  1. Obama can kill the health care destruction bill, or
  2. He can try to pass it anyway, and it can kill his Presidency and the Democrats’ electoral chances more than it already has.

Yes, he has a pared-down version of this bill, but it may still be an uphill fight because the Republicans can do more real good and spend NOTHING.  Whether or not they bother to announce this fact remains to be seen.  Here’s to hoping this latest demonstration of preparation and fine execution becomes a trend with them.

Senator DeMint must be rubbing off on them.  I can’t tell you enough how awesome he is.

Seeing Things in a Different Light

cuckoo_clockI’ve seen some news over the past couple of days which has put me skew to the general opinion.  I’m seeing things in a different light.

Knowing me, that’s the light filtered through the lenses of novelty gag glasses…

  1. ACORN has dissolved itself as a national structure, but the state organizations are still there doing the same old stuff.  Good for them.  Now let’s cut their funding, because their hand-picked Clinton judge only ordered that we couldn’t cut the funding to ACORN, which no longer exists.  Or we can at least try it and see if that’s the case.
  2. Scott Brown’s vote on the Democrats’ “jobs” bill is nothing of note.  Yes, the usual suspects and the latest addition to the Republican ranks voted for a bad bill, but there will be time enough to scream “RINO” if they blow it on the big ones.  Besides, he’s been a net plus so far, so don’t spend your fury on this one.  For now.
  3. The governor of Virginia, my home state of all places, endorsed McCain.  At this point, I’m thinking the endorsements are flying now because McCain is using his party seniority to make the Republicans’ rising but junior stars Offers They Can’t Refuse.  If, on the other hand, McDonnell is endorsing him to get on his good side, he’s in for a shock.  McCain has no time for anyone who’s not one of his fellow Democrats.
  4. I find the fact that Obama has begun his campaign preparations for 2012 inspiring.  In fact, we should go out of our way to encourage him to spend as much of the remainder of his term campaigning as we can, which will keep him making speeches instead of being a bad President.   As a happy side effect, no one will want to hear from him by the time all that campaigning matters, because he’ll be overexposed.

There’s always another angle, folks.  You just have to find it.

Obama Healthcare Theatre

doctorknotTomorrow, Obama is going to hold a televised “summit” with Republicans on healthcare.  At least, they’re billing it as a “summit.”  It would be closer to the truth to call it theatre.

What Obama is attempting to do is get a bounce in the polls like he did the last time he had a televised meeting with the Republicans, and then use it to pass his disaster of a health care bill.  I’ve read more than a bit of speculation about the Republicans bungling this at the 11th hour, and I can’t say I blame anyone for thinking so.  They’ve taken failure to the level of a profession in the past.

This is not one of those times they should consider doing it again.

This legislation transcends “bad.”  It is utterly disastrous.  Everyone will pay through the nose for inferior health care, and our country would be well on the way to bankruptcy.  The fact the Democrats are willing to accept a wipeout in 2010 to get it through should tell you about its real intent, and it’s not the health and well-being of America.

Seeing as how Republicans are primarily motivated by fear, here’s some they should consider.  This is the bill that could end their party.  All of their cushy establishment seniority won’t mean a thing if no one will vote for them due to one bit of bad judgment too many.  So they should resist the urge to blow it, keep the RINOs on a leash, and make the Democrats own this disaster should we all have the misfortune to see it made law.

We’ve all been screaming it for a year now.  NO to Obamacare.  No other answer is acceptable, especially if it’s “bipartisanship” or “compromise.”  There is no legitimate compromise with a cynical power grab, and that is all this is.

Random Maverick Thoughts, 2/23/2010

Nothing particular going on today.  I’m going to enjoy my birthday and leave you with a few maverick thoughts.

  1. Just to throw this thought out into the air, there’s that whole problem with Sarah Palin not backing McCain because of a potential “Well, she backed him for President but not for Senate” line of attack in the media.  In my opinion, it’s not a conundrum.  She could easily say that McCain would have been a better President than Obama, but is a complete loser compared to J.D. Hayworth.  Hayworth is not Obama, and it’s not as though she’s going to get anything back from McCain for her support.  He’ll be his happy maverick self the second he’s re-electedbeerbarrel.
  2. Romney has endorsed McCain for Senate.  This speaks volumes for his judgment and political leanings, and he need not bother asking me for my support in any election from this point onward.  The political Darwinism continues as The Mavericky One helps expose all the RINOs with the end-all, be-all of political worth tests, the McCain Endorsement Challenge.
  3. Just a quick reminder.  McCain was for cap-and-trade before he was against it…kind of like his mini-me, the Official Maverick Lapdog Lindsey Graham (Pomeranian – SC).  His fellow Democrat John Kerry would be proud.
  4. Just in case some of you were still operating under the opinion that Carly Fiorina is a serious consideration for Senate after her demonstrated managerial incompetence with Hewlitt-Packard and the demonsheep ad, I give you Demonsheep Part II.  My thanks to RedState for pointing it out.
