The Buzz About the Filibuster

By Ryan • on February 9, 2010

cheerIt’s not quite a meme yet, but you hear about it from time to time.

Liberals are now screaming about the filibuster, and how we have to end it.  It’s being abused, you see.  The Democrats are now in power, and as Those Who Are Destined to Lead By Birthright can’t accomplish anything because of the newly-restored filibuster power of Those Other Guys, the Republicans.  Therefore, it must be ended, since all others except Those Who Are Destined to Lead By Birthright are wrong and getting in the way for no good reason.

Having seen some of what they wish to accomplish, I’m glad it’s there.

Those Who Are Destined to Lead By Birthright have proposed a great deal of economy-destroying, America-wrecking, corruption-filled payoffs and dependency creating legislation that will do nothing but harm.  They have no track record with which to credibly say “We can solve problems, trust us.  Now get out of the way.”  In this term alone, they have yet to actually succeed in anything but the waste of an epic amount of money and their own self-destruction, and we don’t want them having free reign in causing ours.

So, as much as I may hate it at times, the filibuster should remain.  It’s the brake that keeps bills in the sunlight, and after a year of cram-downs and deals done in darkness, this is a good thing.  The left can take its whining elsewhere.
