900,000 Dollars of Stupid
Here’s one of those mistakes that’s going to cost the GOP dearly.
They spent $900,000 on Scozzafava. $900,000 of stupid. She repaid their efforts by endorsing the Democrat in the NY-23 race after dropping out of it. And yes, while conservatives had a lot to do with her decision, the GOP party leadership and the NRCC did not. They backed her far longer than we did.
But the GOP didn’t just lose $900,000. It demonstrated a tangible example of why their skeptical former donors still receiving those donation requests disguised as polls (for their own amusement or chance to protest, I suppose) should continue NOT giving money. Why on Earth would anyone in their right mind, and especially the right-of-center mind, give money to an organization that just attempted to elect a mislabeled Democrat to its ranks and undermine itself from within?
In case the GOP hadn’t noticed, we conservatives can make do quite well without them. Hoffman demonstrated that nicely. They, however, aren’t going to get far without us, and they are fast running out of credibility to squander.
They should cost some people their jobs and get their political house in order while they still have one. It’s what would happen in the private sector if a company just found out one of their employees gave $900,000 of company money to their biggest competitor. $900,000 in aid to the enemy if you were in the military would be catastrophic to the offending party. So it’s not as though this qualifies as a radical suggestion, and there’s no reason they shouldn’t crack down.
