“You Can’t Say That on Television!”

I suspect that’s what a lot of Democrats told Barney Frank after this:

You’re not supposed to say things like “we are trying on every front to increase the role of government in the area of regulation” out loud, Barney.  It annoys the normal people who are full well aware of what government regulation does when it’s over-applied.

Not to mention that the topic of this video was derivatives.  If they were talking about the subprime mortgage derivatives, they can thank the Community Reinvestment Act and all the blunt force trauma used to ramp it up in the 90′s.  More of those regulations which Frank loves so much that caused a tsunami of repercussions on our banking industry not so long ago.

Thanks, but no thanks.  You can keep your additional regulations.

The Compassion Card

doctorknotOf all the political tricks the Democrats play, the compassion card has got to be one of the worst to defeat.

It’s use isn’t very hard to comprehend.  When trying to sell a program they know is going to be a costly disaster in all ways except as their next power grab, the left resorts to things like “We’re doing it for the children“.  When Republicans tried to stop it for reasons like “Well, it won’t work” or “It costs too much and it won’t work” (when they were still anything other than the Other Democrats), they looked like jerks.

It’s been this way for years.

Conservatives now have the same problem, because the Republicans aren’t putting up much of a fight here lately.  It’s so much easier to make a sound bite out of “let’s do it for the children” than to explain to a lot of people with short attention spans why doing that something is a really bad idea.  We can have

  • all the history,
  • examples in other countries,
  • number crunching,
  • and even alternative suggestions we want

…but it takes time and explanation to use them the left doesn’t need when they’re invoking “the children”.

Michelle Malkin has two reports about the compassion card’s use to promote Disastercare here and here.  Never mind that what Obama is proposing is more expensive, lower quality care that’s less available.  Never mind that we have countries that have tried it before as proof of this.  Never mind that the liberals have no track record of success in solving problems.  They’re doing it for the children, after all.

Let’s look at the intentions instead?  Fine.  While some of the liberal rank-and-file actually intend compassion, which I will admit, their leaders do not.  Their interest is that your dependency is their uninterrupted power, and to hell with the damage they cause in the process of gaining it.  For them, compassion is the rhetorical means, and not the actual end.

This power lust is also why the left is vicious to conservatives, and why they whip their base into such frenzies over us.  They’re not angry because we’re obstructing their “compassion”.  They’re angry that we’re obstructing their hunt for power, and they’re soulless enough to demagogue in order to remove us as an impediment.

It’s not real.  The compassion card is a weapon in the Democrat’s political arsenal.  Look at their past “accomplishments” and see for yourself.

Does It Ever Occur to You…

think_boyLately, it doesn’t seem as though a lot of people are giving their actions any thought.

The biggest example of this is Gingrich and his support of Scozzafava in the NY-23 race.  What exactly did he hope to accomplish?  Scozzafava wasn’t even a good choice for that district, much less his party.  Her presence in this election at all was completely senseless.

In fact, there are quite a few reasons lately to ask any number of these political sorts “Does it ever occur to you…”

  1. Gingrich, does it ever occur to you that instead of lending credibility when you make an appearance with someone, you’re simply eroding your own for no good reason?  What did you think you would accomplish by being on a commercial with Pelosi?  Being seen with Sharpton?  That all of us mindless conservative rubes would simply follow along like the robots you apparently think we are, instead of thinking that you jumped the shark?
  2. Mislabeled Republicans aspiring to enter office under their banner:  Does it ever occur to you that you could be the next Scozzafava?  If she loses NY-23, that means the Republican party machine is now at war with its own moving parts, namely the money, manpower, and votes that constitute it from their own angry base.  No promises they make to you about how you’ll sail through an election will ever mean the same as it did before this mess.
  3. President Obama, does it ever occur to you that instead of your Chicago brand of thug politics cowing us all into submission, you’re just throwing rocks at a hornet’s nest?  You were the motivating force behind the formation of the Tea Party movement.  You were the reason ACORN became a huge target for us, and you are the reason we just keep on getting stronger and more organized.  Historically, we haven’t been a nation that backs down from its challenges, and the next challenge on our list is you.
  4. Mainstream media, does it ever occur to you that your obvious bias will reach a breaking point where you cease to exist?  How long before attempts to protect Democrats, or create self-fulfilling prophecies for them as the Washington Post attempts with Disastercare finally get old enough to bankrupt you?  You’re going to have to choose between them and your self-preservation someday.  I suspect it’s someday soon.

Times, they are a’changing.  It might be time for some of those people I mentioned to start wondering if those changes might not be so good for them if they continue the way they have been.

Palin Endorses Hoffman in the NY-23 Race

flag_dogLet’s cut to the chase.  Palin endorsed Hoffman in the NY-23 race, and it’s paid off for him (read the report at Hot Air).

From this point, it’s amateur punditry time, where you’re free to add your guess to mine.  Today, it’s a guess of “what happens next?”

  1. If Hoffman wins, the Republicans will be put in a position where a dumb leadership decision will have put a third party on the map.  It’s safe to have every confidence that they’re dumb enough to ignore it and continue moving left.  Yes, I’d like to believe they’ll figure it out, but realistically, I don’t.
  2. If the Democrat wins, the Republicans will be in a position where a dumb leadership decision put their opponents in power in a supposedly safe district.  Expect some namecalling if that happens, and a bunch of snarky trolls screaming “Well, what did you expect?  Are you happy now?
  3. If Scozzafava wins, hope that the alarm clock goes off because it’s a bad dream.  However, her win seems highly unlikely.

What do you think?  Feel free to comment.
