Chicago has lost the bid for the 2016 Olympics.  I say that, because there’s a lot of reason to believe that Chicagoans were opposed to it, and I agree with them completely.  Their leaders and our president can both take a flying leap.

So congratulations and thank you, Rio.  I am sincere on both points.

Yes, it’s a loss for Obama, but that’s not the reason I’m happy we gained by losing the 2016 Olympic hosting duties.  I’m happy because frankly, my country has enough on its hands right now.  We’re up to our ears in impending and existing trouble, not to mention debt.  We really don’t need any more to occupy our time.

I know hosting the Olympics is a big gain of face.  We can do it again once we’re out of our collective messes.  But for now, Brazil has a lot of work to do, even if they did have a good poster about it.
