Drop the Race Card

crystalballNo, I don’t mean use it.  I mean drop it.  As in off the face of the Earth, because it has no worth except to inflame racial tensions.  It’s certainly worthless as a means to quell racial injustice, which is the pretense under which it is most often played.

I’ve heard it used so many times to attack Obama’s critics I shouldn’t even report it as news.  But this time, it was used by the most complete loser to occupy the White House in my lifetime, Jimmy Carter.  The fact he was a former President is the only reason he’s interesting enough to be annoying and mention here.

The good news is that the impact of the race card is eroded.  Have you noticed that lately, no one jumps as much as they once did with its use?  As it continues to be abused by this administration and its supporters, it will reach the point of diminishing returns, and finally be ignored.

When that day comes, it will be time for some happy irony.  The people most dependent on the race card for their political well being will have been most instrumental in its destruction.  At least Obama will be good for something, because he’s going to bungle the rest.

The loss of the race card is the first step on the path of real racial harmony.  No artificial agitation of racial tensions, no self-serving demagogues using it to build incomes, and no politicians hiding their misdeeds behind it.  That means the real possibility that MLK’s dream may finally come true:  no one is judged by the color of their skin, but solely by the content of their character.

I’m looking forward to it.
