A Little Paint and a New Sign?

doctorknotI’m going to open the floor to my readers, who are always free to comment.  This time, I’m actively soliciting some comments from you.  What do you think about Obama and his medical “co-ops”?

I’ve heard it several ways now.  It’s a surrender.  It’s a trial balloon.  In my opinion, it’s Obama trying to take the gas out of the protests long enough to pass single payer.   The problem is, all of these arguments have merit.

Yes, Obama may be choosing to fight again another day.  Democrats have a far better developed sense of political self-preservation than the Republicans do.  But the timing on this seems a bit fishy for it to be Obama giving up.

Is it a trial balloon?  This is also not unprecedented in Democrat politics.  The Clintons used these during Bill’s term.  He could just be gauging public opinion one way or the other, especially with his own base.  But why risk angering the people he needs at this juncture?

It smells like the whole “false sense of security” thing to me.  Are we all supposed to back off now that Obama is no longer proposing the dreaded “public option” Trojan horse?  One week out of the Recess Rallies?  I for one am thinking this particular announcement is Obama giving Disastercare a little paint and a new sign without making any real changes.  Then he lets everyone calm down before passing it.

I want to hear from you.  Which one gets your vote?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.
