Lindsey Graham Forms Original Opinion, Costs Liebermann McCain VP Slot
The Washington Post has done a research piece on the 2008 election, and this particular section covered the decision of McCain to choose Palin as his running mate.
This piece mentions how The Official Maverick Lapdog, Lindsey Graham (Pomeranian – SC) actually formed an original opinion without McCain’s input. He wanted Lieberman to be the VP candidate, and without McCain’s consent, started talking about it before the pick. According to the Washington Post, this proved disastrous for Lieberman’s chances.
The post also mentions that because of this, conservative opposition had time to form. I must confess, I can’t see how conservative opposition would have been avoided had McCain chosen Lieberman, even if it was a done deal. After eight years of eye-poking to feed his own ambitions, it’s not as though McCain could have portrayed this choice in some way that would placate them.
It’s part of his mavericky charm. He just can’t help but to annoy conservatives. Mostly, I think it’s because he’s trying.
As for McCain, I humbly suggest that he considers this a teaching moment for proper pet care. You’re the only Senator in Congress to have another Senator as a housepet. In the future, make sure Graham is preoccupied with chew toys during the times it’s important for him to stay quiet, and don’t forget the doggie biscuits.
