Obama has nominated Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court.  She’s as much of a hack judicial activist disaster as you’d expect a liberal like Obama to nominate.  The problem is that, politically speaking, she may be unstoppable.

She’s a political activist who couldn’t care less about the Constitution, but she’s also a female Hispanic.  That means there are enough cowering fools in the Republican party to insure she won’t face much opposition, and what she does get will be derided by Republican moderates.  “We’re going to tell the bigots to shut up” and all that.

And yes, I’ve already heard the obligatory sarcastic remark about not voting for McCain.  My response to that is that McCain would have “reached across the aisle”, i.e. become a Democrat for the duration, on any issue of substance, including judicial nominees.  The Democrats would have only had to start making noise about someone like this for the Supreme Court, and McCain would have jumped right on board.

At least I can still do my own fighting, and so can you.  Write, call, fax, and protest if you want this nomination blocked.
