Not Going to Miss Souter

By Ryan • on May 2, 2009

Justice Souter of the US Supreme Court is retiring.  I’m not going to miss the boob.

However, this is where the fun begins.  Obama’s potential nominee list ranks right up there with Ruth Bader-Hyphenated-Ginsberg.  Supposedly, had we conservatives supported the Master Maverick with more zeal, we wouldn’t be in this mess right now.  I’m forced to concur.

If McCain was President, he’d be nominating another Souter.

What does that mean?  It means that the candidate McCain would have chosen wouldn’t be openly liberal from the start.  They would just be a mushy moderate that turned into a liberal in a few months at most.  So the end result would simply have been a short delay in a result that will mirror Obama’s choice.  McCain, of course, would have kept his fellow Democrats reasonably happy that way, and probably earned himself some puff press for “standing up to his base”.

Fortunately, that’s all hypothetical.  I say fortunately, because after eight years of Bush, I’d rather deal with an enemy than a betrayer.  At least this way, I know the fight is coming, and I don’t get to feel another knife in my back.  Furthermore, the defection of Senator Hemorrhoid might be useful in this regard, as mentioned on Hot Air.

I've had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn't it.
