Speaker Gingrich is warning the Republican Party that if they don’t shape up on spending, there’s going to be a conservative 3rd party movement in 2012. My first response: Going to be?
Where has Captain Clueless been? There’s already a conservative 3rd party movement happening. Several of them, to be exact, like the Constitution Party. Not to mention the Libertarian showings in Georgia and an Independence Party run in Minnesota this last election cycle because two Senators wanted to join the maverick paradigm and followed the Official Maverick Housepet in his completely underrated “Gang of 10″.
But Gingrich does have one thing right. My best efforts at Straight Talk Denial and all the marginalization, condescention, invocations of Reagan quotes, ad hominim attacks, and belated appeals to reason anyone and everyone may well attempt won’t be enough anymore. That means that if the Republicans continue on as they are, they may have one or possibly two more election cycles before they cease to exist as a viable political force. Thank you so much, Rockefellar trash.
So, I’ll tell anyone who believes there’s going to be a 3rd party conservative movement this much. You have your tense wrong. There are 3rd party conservative movements right now, and at this rate, one of them will gain some traction in the very near future.
Addendum, 4/5/2009: While a Libertarian candidate did run in the Minnesota election, it was the Independence Party candidate, Dean Barkley, who was certified with approximately 15% of the vote totals.
