Just when I was beginning to worry that the Master Maverick was going soft, he decides to annoy his base with a trial balloon.  He floated the thought of choosing a pro-choice VP, which would pretty much compromise him on every issue he claims differentiates him from his fellow Democrats.  This maverick student is breathing a sigh of relief.

I was really starting to doubt my belief system there for a moment.  McCain looking, acting, and talking like a conservative?  What happened?!  Fortunately, this made me realize it was all a show for the ordinary supporters he intends to annoy later.  Whew!

In a stunning move, Senator Graham, the Official Maverick Housepet, came to a ‘compromise’ on drilling with four of his fellow Republican Senators and five Democrats.  In typical RINO fashion, the Democrats effectively get everything they want and political cover besides, while the few tokenistic provisions for drilling off of four states will be so buried in extra regulations, it will never happen.  In other words, a compromise truly worthy of the Master Maverick.

And just like the Master Maverick, the Official Maverick Housepet gets plenty of camera time while McCain’s fellow Democrats get to suppress laughter.  Furthermore, not only did Graham just take the teeth out of the only issue the Republicans had going for them, but he did one of two things to the Master Maverick as well:

1. He just ripped the legs out of the only issue McCain had going for him, effectively mavericking his own mentor, or
2. He did this with the prior approval of his owner, which means McCain is trying to neuter drilling while appearing to be a proponent of it.  If this is the case, of course he would send his well-trained Official Maverick Housepet to do it.

Still, don’t be afraid, fellow students of the Master Maverick!  This humble, if slightly overwhelmed, student of his maverick greatness is sure this is all part of some incomprehensibly brilliant plan to win the election by losing it.  Don’t ask me to try and explain, because I can’t.  I can’t think like McCain or his Official Maverick Housepet, because their thought processes are far above and beyond my comprehension.

This actually started last Friday, but it appears that this wasn’t just a one-time publicity stunt.

A number of House Republicans decided not to go on vacation with the rest of Congress, and instead stayed and continued to pound the Gavel Nazi, Nancy Pelosi, on the energy issue.  It’s another example of the contagious enthusiasm created by McCain’s maverick spirit.  Heck, the Republicans are putting up a fight.  This is amazing!

Oh yeah, they did a few other things too:

1. They’re doing good for the country.  This is a big one, and well worth mentioning first.
2. As I just mentioned, they just gave the big middle finger to the Gavel Nazi, who turned off the cameras, lights, and microphones after forcing an adjournment.  This didn’t stop them.
3. More imporantly, they decided not to throw themselves on their swords for the Master Maverick.  The ‘Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less’ initiative is a big slap to McCain’s face, and during his presidential campaign no less.  Frankly, this was long overdue from his party, but better late than never.  They did finally figure out that McCain only wants maverick supporters, and are now worthy to speak the Master Maverick’s name.
4. Yes, McCain is acting like he’s on board, which means his presidential rhetoric is in direct opposition to his voting record.  To remind you though, he’s a global warming adherent and opposes drilling, except when he’s for it so he can get elected.  I expect, in his political brilliance, he’ll take credit for this conservative initiative in the truest spirit of his fellow Democrats after all is said and done.  The man can flip-flop like a Clinton.

My congradulations again to the House Republicans who are participating in this.  You’re doing great for the country, and furthermore, have become one with the maverick paradigm.

McCain took a break from his uncharacteristic attacks on fellow Democrat Obama, and instead took the time to praise House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.  I guess he needed a break after contradicting his typical Democrat nature.

He should finish his rejuvenation by attacking the North Carolina Republicans again, and reaffirm his Democratic roots before resuming his campaign.  It would be good for his complexion.
