Truly, in my admiration for the Master Maverick, I may be ascribing too much to his influence and brilliance when I speak of the Warner-Liebermann Global Warming bill.  Still, I don’t believe I could heap nearly enough maverick praise upon him, and so I will opine that his maverick genius has again come shining through.

John McCain’s position on global warming is well known, because he’s stated it repeatedly.  Here’s a reminder:

Still, he can’t very well have his name on a global warming bill in an election year, because he might annoy his ordinary conservative supporters too soon.  That means not reminding them of the McCain-Liebermann global warming bill until he’s elected.

What’s the Master Maverick supposed to do then?  Why, inspire an awe-struck Senator who’s retiring this year to swap out names with him!

Enter John Warner (Maverick Housepet-VA). Eager to end his tenure on a maverick note and insure the loss of his seat to one of McCain’s fellow Democrats, he puts his name on the bill instead.  So not only do McCain’s fellow Democrats get to hide behind the illusion of bipartisanship yet again, but McCain can remain miserly with his courage, and not appear to be poking his fingers in anyone’s eyes with a bill that most certainly resembles McCain-Liebermann in most respects.

Behold McCain’s maverick courage in all it’s glory, and gape in awe.  You are not fit to shave your head so you could honor your hair by carpeting his house with it.
