It’s zero flak time.
For those of you who haven’t visited here before, the zero flak articles are where I remove my proverbial clown nose, floppy shoes and face paint, and speak plainly instead of inflicting my usual satirical vitriol. Today, it’s what I intend to do regarding McCain’s inertial politics to my colleagues in the conservative movement.
What are inertial politics? It’s the theory that the base will vote for whoever wins a Republican party nomination, so long as there is an “R” in front of their name. The party’s inertia carries that candidate, however undesirable, forward to a victory because of their branding. It’s how the RINOs keep being elected with our support, and it’s clearly how McCain intends to deal with us on the conservative side.
Why do I say this? Here are some examples.
- His recent treatment of the NC Republican Party and a perfectly legitimate ad. Do you think he would have done that if he didn’t believe we would vote for him anyway?
- The fact he would even consider himself desirable to conservatives after all he’s done in the Senate. The McCain-Feingold First Amendment violation bill, the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill, the McCain-Liebermann sellout on the global warming scam, and the “agents of intolerance” remark are all examples of this. How on Earth does this man think he’s going to get the conservative vote, if he doesn’t believe inertial politics had anything to do with it?
- His own version of Schwarzenegger’s “I want to be a candidate of everybody” remark, which as Schwarzenegger demonstrated, is a codespeak cop-out for “I’m going to be a liberal Democrat because it gives me better press”. You can hear it here. Considering that this is such an easy thing to remember, much less verify, why do this unless you think your base won’t go drifting away?
Ladies and gentleman on the conservative side, let me state my position clearly. Unless something drastic happens, this blog will run so long as McCain is any kind of a force in politics, and all the way through 2013 if necessary. It’s because I’ve decided to throw him under the bus. I REFUSE to be a part of the RINO power theory, and I WILL NOT be herded like a sheep by the Republican’s clearly broken nomination process because I’m not a slave to inertial politics.
McCain thinks he owns my vote? He wants to be a maverick and antagonize me for his puff press? That’s a game millions can play, and what I want to speak with you about now.
You Have a Choice
You know what he is, just as well as I do. You know there’s nothing to be gained by him winning the White House beyond a world of heartburn, because he’s just the other Democrat running in this race. That leaves those of us in the currently disenfranchised conservative portion of this country with two choices:
- We can continue to move heaven and Earth for the Republican party for no good reason. We can find some way to deliver another 1980 or 1994 to them in spite of it all, only to have another RINO like Bush or his daddy come along and squander everything we gave them. We can be a part of their inertial politics, and vote McCain for president, because we’ve always voted Republican for president. This will confirm to the RINOs once and for all that it only takes some occasional red meat rhetoric, empty promises, and maybe not spitting on us once in a blue moon to get us to do everything they want, and we’ll be stuck with them forever.
- Or, you can take my tack. You can refuse to swallow the abomination of the McCain presidency. You can help create a few more ‘mutiny stories‘ in the press. You can maverick him back, and give the Republicans a choice. Shape up, or go it alone and lose elections. You can refuse to give away your efforts, time, and money to people who’ve lately only bothered to fight hard to oppose us on things like granting amnesty, and demand they produce some results for our trouble. It’s worked this way in the private sector forever, and maybe it’s time we injected some of this into the Republicans as well.
That is what my blog is about, and what I mean when I encourage you to become a maverick supporter in my more boisterous moments. You and you alone can decide to be inertial, or take another path and maybe change things for the better. Quit letting the Republicans take you for granted, call you names, and lie to you once every two years for your support. Discard McCain, and make the rest of them earn your help from this point onward.
Come back and visit me again. Enjoy a little absurd humor at the Master Maverick’s expense. You know he has it coming.
